Christ Church is dependent on voluntary giving. The work of Christ Church is made possible, under God, by individual's giving for which we are most grateful.
Over 10% all that Christ Church receives through 'planned giving' as well as all the collections taken at the services are passed onto mission and individuals at home and abroad. This means that 15-20% of our donation income is given away.
We endeavour to be scrupulously careful about our spending. Our accounts are audited by an independent firm of accountants. Your giving remains confidential.
To support the work of Christ Church, we would suggest that you set up a standing order which enables us to plan and budget properly. If you pay tax, we would ask that you Gift Aid your giving which increases your support by over 20% through reclaiming income tax. There is also a weekly envelope system that you can use.
Some companies operate a 'matching scheme' whereby the company then matches your gift to a nominated charity up to a certain limit. You may care to check this possibility with the appropriate person (Finance director/HR department etc.) in your company.
If you would like to make a donation by cheque, please make cheques payable to ‘Christ Church Woking PCC’ (if applicable please indicate on the back of the cheque the name of the charity.)
There are a number of ways in which you can give on a regular basis. For more information, please pick up a ’Financial Giving’ envelope at the Welcome area in church or email the church adminstrator admin@christchurchwoking.org
Thank you.
Guidance on Christian Giving
Please pray about your giving at Christ Church. Ask God what He is calling you to give. If you would like some guidance on the principles of Christian giving please see below.
Question: What does the Old Testament (OT) say about giving? There are three types of giving in the OT.
i) The first was the ‘tithe’ – since all we have is given to us by God, they gave a ‘tithe’ (literally 1/10th) back to him (e.gLev 27:30). ii) The second was the ‘free will offering’ (Deut 6:10) on top of the tithe – freely given because of God’s abundant generosity (e.g. when there was a good harvest). iii) The third was the ‘sacrificial offering’. This was a type of freewill offering, again on top of the tithe, but given out of poverty rather than abundance (e.g. 1 Kings 17:8ff)
Question: But aren’t Christians free from the tithe? Yes – but should the people of the New Covenant give less than the people of the Old?
Question: What does the New Testament say about giving?
In 2 Corinthians chs 8 & 9, Paul encourages Christians to give:
1. Sacrificially (8 v2&3) – that means we don’t give him our leftovers! 2. Wholeheartedly (8 v4) – as stewards who know that all we have is on loan. 3. Without delay (8 v10) – we are called to faithful now, not tomorrow. 4. Generously (9 v6) – God’s been generous to us beyond our imagination! 5. By planned decisions (9 v7) – pray about it! 6. Cheerfully (9 v7) – lets be thankful for the 90ish% he’s not asking back!
Question: Should I give to other worthy charities and how should I balance them with supporting ChristChurch? Yes! Many use the OT model for their giving – e.g. setting up a monthly standing order in the region of 10% to God’s work in the local church and then give further free will/sacrificial offerings to the church and/or to other worthy charities. Question: What do I do now? Start praying about your giving to Christ Church. Ask God what he is calling you to give.
